The Book

I recently had the opportunity to read Rebecca D'Harlingue's "The Lines Between Us," and I was captivated by the story.

One of the book's most powerful elements is its masterful intertwining of authentic historical events from the 17th to the 20th century, travelling through cities such as Madrid, Seville or Mexico, creating a rich and immersive experience that captivates the reader. Additionally, the novel explores themes of familial bonds, hidden histories, and the enduring strength of women.

Rebecca D'Harlingue skillfully pays tribute to the Golden Age of Spanish Literature by mentioning some of its most renowned authors, such as Calderón de la Barca, Fernando Rojas, and Lope de Vega (among others).

The book addressed darker chapters of history, including the Inquisition and the suppression of women's autonomy. This grounding in historical reality adds weight and authenticity to the narrative.

Through the stories of Juliana and Rachel, two women separated by centuries but connected by letters and diaries, explore the importance of memory and the quiet rebellions that shape family legacies.

In my opinion, this novel could be an excellent choice for book club reading, inviting discussion about identity, women's roles, familial bonds, and traumas.
